Sugar Baby

Sugar Baby is an early and productive watermelon. It is the standard for "icebox" melons. Round fruits weigh 8-10 lbs. and have red flesh that is fine-grained, solid, crisp, sweet and juicy. the rind is almost black when ripe. Sugar Baby is well suited for the kitchen garden as the vines can be grown on a trellis.

Suggestions: Use black plastic to warm the soil and start seeds 3 weeks before setting out to lengthen the growing season. To direct seed, plant after all danger of frost is past. If planting in hills, plant 6 to 8 seeds per hill 8' apart. Thin to best 3 plants per hill.
