Steak Sandwich
Large fruits with old-fashioned tomato taste. They remain firm when ripe,
so they are perfect for BLTs or burgers. Rich, succulent, sweet taste. Vigorous
but compact plants load up with dozens of fruit at a time, continuing for many
weeks from midsummer to early fall.
Source: Burpee
Days to germination: 6-10
Days to harvest: 70
Planting depth: 1/4"
Spacing (row/plant): 3'/24"
Suggestions: For easier harvesting, support plants
with stakes or cages. Start seeds indoors six to eight weeks before planting outdoors.
Harden off seedlings by putting them outside during the day for 1 week before
transplanting. Transplant seedlings to the garden when nighttime temperatures
remain above 55 degrees Farenheit. Enrich the soil before planting. Use landscape
fabric to retain heat in the soil. To avoid diseases, don't plant where tomatoes
or peppers have grown in the last two years. Water regularly to keep soil evenly
moist.
