LETTUCE (COS)
Little Leprechaun

Growing to 8 inches tall at peak maturity, Little Leprechaun isn't quite as small as its name might imply. Its uniform upright growth habit keeps the beautiful colored leaves clean and off the ground. The contrasting leaves are radiant shades of mahogany, red, and olive green — very eye catching! The tightly wrapped center is sweet and crunchy, just perfect for a fall treat.

Source: Territorial Seed Co.
Days to germination: up to 21
Days to harvest: 52
Planting depth: 1/8"
Spacing (row/plant): 12-18"/8-12"

Suggestions: Sow in early spring, 3-4 weeks before last frost, and successive plantings thereafter every 3 weeks until two weeks before the first fall frost. This means that warmer climates (zones 5-9) can grow lettuce early and late into the year. In zones 9 or warmer, lettuce can be grown all year. Or start seeds indoors 6 weeks before last frost or when soil temperatures are very high outside (seeds don't germinate well in very hot soils). Prefer light textured, fertile, moist, well drained soil. Keep moist but not soggy. Full sun or light shade. Will grow in partial shade of tomatoes, pole beans, or peas in the heat of the summer. A light fertilization of fish emulsion or water soluble fertilizers at 4 weeks is recommended.
