CABBAGE
Danish Ballhead

Best main-crop cabbage for kraut. Tightly packed leaves make extra-solid, heavy, round heads that average 7-10 lbs. A storage type with unequalled keeping qualities. Always crisp and tender with excellent flavor. Excellent all-purpose cabbage. Use fresh for delicous salads and slaw.

Days to germination: 4-5
Days to harvest: 110
Planting depth: 1/4"
Spacing: 10-20"

Heirloom

Suggestions: Time crops so heads mature in cool weather. Install cutworm collards and cover transplants with floating row covers. Hoeing can damage shallow roots. Give a steady supply of water and a fertilizer boost — side-dress with anything with plenty of nitrogen 3 weeks after transplanting. Mulch plants with 6" of organic matter to keep the soil cool, retain moisture and keep weeds down. Cabbages for storing should be pulled, not cut. Store in a cool, most location.
