The seedlings have been steadily sprouting, some faster than others. I had so many red onion sprouts, that I've already thinned them to one per APS cell. The yellow onions aren't too far behind. I also have tons of American Flag leek sprouts -- more than enough to get the 10 that I want to plant. The Winter Giant leeks aren't doing as well. Only 4 have sprouted. They're still within the normal range for germination, but they're so far behind all the others.

If you look closely, you may see the sprouting Winter Giant Leek! |
The first sprouts came up today! I have one of each leek (American Flag & Winter Giant), 1 yellow onion and 2 red onions.

Nothing has sprouted yet. (It's too early, but of course I keep checking anyway.) I think that the pepper plants in the solarium that don't show any new growth are dead. I'm going to wait and see, but I will sow seeds for all the varieties that don't look like they'll make it. This includes my 2 Thai Hot plants from 2003.

Tonight, I sowed the first seeds! I have a bunch of leeks American Flag and Winter Giant in a flat. They will be moved to 6" deep pots when the seedlings grow 3" tall, so I didn't want to sow them in individual cells. I also planted onions 18 each of Red Burgundy and Sweet Spanish Yellow Utah Jumbo. They are in 3 APS-12s.

The Winter Giant Leek seeds from Seeds of Change arrived today. Also, I FINALLY found an untreated version of the Giant Szegedi pepper I've been looking for on eBay of all places! I should have known to check there first.
I'm wondering what the weather will be like this spring. We've had the weirdest winter. Today, it started out warm and I actually saw hyacinths coming up already! Then it got rainy and very cold again. A lot of plants seem to think it's already spring. I saw crocuses coming up in other parts of town a week ago.

I checked on all the pepper plants that are overwintering in the solarium today.
Some are definitely doing better than others. Click on one of the photos here to see a bigger photo of all the pepper plants in that area and to see photos and notes on how each is doing.
I was supposed to start my first seeds today onions and leeks. But, I had to order some new APS items from Gardener's Supply Company and they won't arrive until Tuesday. So, I will just wait a couple days and start my seeds then.
Also, I don't have the leek seeds I want yet. I ordered Winter Giant Leek from Seeds of Change, but they were out of them so I had to wait. I just re-ordered them last week. I do have a pack (Winter Giant 2) that I got from somewhere else, but they sent me some treated pepper seeds and now I'm questioning the quality of the other seeds they sent me. I'd much rather have the Seeds of Change seeds, because I know all of their products are high quality.
